“Among smartphone users in the US, time spent with their device is 3 hours, 10 minutes per day.”
I won’t make today’s post extremely long…and it is somewhat ironic as I am typing this out on my phone (don’t have my laptop right now)….
That being said….
There is damage to one’s psyche that comes from overuse of the modern smartphone.
Consequence 1: Distortion of reality
There one thing I know about marketing above all else…
The root of all marketing is insecurity.
There are three evergreens in marketing.
1. Health (get fit)
2. Wealth (get rich)
3. Sex (get laid)
Smartphones attract eyeballs…the life blood of marketing.
The more marketing you are exposed to…the more insecurity and displeasure you will feel.
“But I would love to fix those areas of my life.”
Your chances are much better away from the screen of your smartphone.
Consequence 2: Missing life
This one is obvious…
When your face is in a screen you cannot look up and see the skies.
You are not an active participant of life, but rather a browsing observer.
Turn off the screen…be the participant.
Consequence 3: Envy/dissatisfaction

With smartphone you are constantly plugged into the lives of your neighbors.
You take away time and focus from your own life.
To make matters worse the content on social media and smartphones is curated to present an image of success and happiness (whether true or not).
Envy and dissatisfaction are natural consequences of overuse of the smartphone.
Consequence 4: Anxiety
One of the most powerful human emotions…
Explosions, mass shootings, and disturbing human behavior will always attract attention.
These thing seem so commonplace only because they are more likely to be shared on social media.
You are less likely see acts of human kindness and the good in the world.
Refocus your attention.
Humans tend to find what they look for.

All I ask is that you try to go 24 hours without your smartphone and social media.
Just see how you feel.
It is likely you achieve gains in mental peace of mind.
You’ll never know unless you try.
